Dora the Explorer is a great television show that features Dora Rodriguez, a seven-year old girl who spends each episode doing simple, but often obstacle-filled, quests. Dora the Explorer is named Dora because Exploradora is the Spanish word for female explorer. Dora the Explorer provides unique interaction with her preschool aged fans because Dora is bilingual. Dora the Explorer speaks both Spanish and English.
Dora the Explorer has a group of friends that works with her to complete the quest. In addition to her cousin, Diego, who works as an animal rescue worker, Dora the Explorer has several animal friends that help her succeed at her quests. Two of the main animal sidekicks appear with Dora the Explorer in each episode are Boots the Monkey, who is Dora’s best friend; and, Swiper the Fox. Swiper is a bit of a troublemaker because he likes to steal items that are necessary to help Dora the Explorer solve her quests, in order to keep him from taking the things Dora must say “Swiper no Swiping” three times before Swiper can grab the items.
In addition to the help Dora the Explorer gets from Boots the Monkey, Dora has a magical purple backpack that provides whatever Dora needs to get her quests completed. The backpack holds little things like The Map, and very big things like ladders to solve the situation Dora is working on. The backpack also has a star pocket on it that holds special explorer star helpers that have special powers to help Dora. Dora the Explorer teaches children to be resourceful, kind, and gentle. From her catchy “We Did It” song, to the interaction with the audience about their favorite part, Dora the Explorer gets her audience thinking with her. A Dora the Explorer party offers great opportunities for discovering a lot of fun!
